This is the original 1985 advert I scanned from a magazine. As you can see, BMW SA advertised that they would build 204 units. I have yet to come across a VIN number higher than 171 though. I have a register of about 23 cars I have collected over the past few years and that is the highest VIN number. the numbers follow a local SA sequence, for the 333i it is 33370xxx, where 333 is the series type, 70 indicated exec option (all of them) and xxx is the build sequence. Mine is 33370101 which means 101st car built and it was built in all likelyhood Late January 1986 if one looks at the date indicators left on the car (seatbelt date stamps, aircon hoses supplied by OEM's, upholstered panelling etc.) Survival rate is very poor and I looked for 4 years before I found this one which was in a good enough condition. Handling is poor with the big engine and it needs an experienced driver if it is to be driven hard. The rear end will step out and bite you if you get too adventurous! Many were wrecked and I do not think that there are more than 50 to 80 cars left in a roadworthy condition. They were available only in 4 colours, 2 flat and 2 metallic, Henna Red, Ice White, Aero Silver and Diamond Black. Only 3 cars on my register are Diamond Black. Available from April 1985 to August 1987.

The buyer had to decide on Air Conditioning or Power Steering as only one could be installed. The 16" Alpina wheels had BMW emblems on the cover caps and all cars had the Alpina big brake kit of 296mm discs. The rear brakes were standard except for uprated linings and pressure reducer deletion. ABS was an option. Alpina early style Combi Instrument in the dash was standard equipment as well as the Alpina labelled red needle instrumentation with 260km/h speedometer. MTech 1 body kit was standard but M striping kit was option. 333i bootlid badge was on top of M colour stripe. Engine used Alpina intake to move air cleaner over to passenger side (all RHD remember!) and special brackets welded to body for this as well as for hydraulic ABS unit from 7 series car. brackets welded to body for relocated radiator expansion tank where original battery is in 323i, battery then relocated to boot. Alpina radiator made to fit as per B6 2.8 and Alpina springs and dampers (revalved Bilstein). Close ratio dogleg Getrag 5 speed standard with 2.93 LSD. Special local built propshaft to suit.
